“Whether therefore ye eat or drink or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God”. 1 Corinthians 10:31
The Health and temperance ministry is committed to bringing happiness to the church family and community through optimal health.
The God the creator of our bodies and of this world gave us a blueprint; an owner’s manual for how to obtain a fulfilling and healthful life. This blueprint is the scripture and the health ministry would like you join us on a journey to explore how to live a long, healthy life together
It is God’s desire that each of us may have an abundant life (John 10:10), and that means abundance of physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual wellbeing. These areas of our lives are all interconnected and cannot be neglected if we want to experience whole person health.
Our God has lovingly given us divine principles to follow in order to achieve optimal health and we are called to receive the many benefits of living by these principles.
We believe our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and we must care for it intelligently so we can fully experience God’s presence and discern His will in our lives.
By adopting the most healthful lifestyle with adequate exercise, rest and a healthy diet, by abstaining from things that harm our mind and body, by nurturing healthy interpersonal relationships, by maintaining a positive outlook and hopeful attitude, and by seeking to know God deeply and trusting in His leading of our lives, we can begin to experience an abundant life today while also making a positive implant in the lives of those around us.
The Adventist lifestyle protects its adherents from several diseases which can be prevented by dietary changes, simple remedies, and health screening programs, health education, substance abuse prevention programs and physical fitness programs.
The focus for this year will be:
- Health screening program
- Vegetarian cooking classes
- Bread baking
- Prevention of heart disease
- Cancer prevention
- Stress control
- Prevention of sexually transmitted disease
God has given us the health message to prepare us for our heavenly home. God’s wish for us is good health. He states, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou may prosper and be in health even as thy soul prospereth.” (3 John 21)
The creator of man has arranged the living machinery of our bodies. Every function is wonderfully and wisely made. And God pledged himself to keep this human machinery in healthful action if the human agent will obey His laws and co-operate with God. (Counsels on diet and foods. P.17)
Health is a great treasure. It is the richest possession that mortal can have. Wealth, honor or learning is dearly purchased. If it be at the loss of vigor of health, none of these attainments can secure happiness if health is wanting. (C.E p16)
This department believes that a sound body is required for sound intellect, and our desire should be to attain and maintain a healthy body and mind so we can serve God to the fullest.
Our mission therefore, is to bring awareness of the importance of health and temperance through health education using various methods (literature, health seminars, cooking classes and exercise programs)
Come and learn and be inspired.
